The Dutch tenor Mark Omvlee graduated in 2003 from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, having studied for four years with Hein Meens. His studies also comprise of one year at the School for Drama & Contemporary Music Theatre and a year studying School Music, both in Amsterdam. Since his graduation he regularly receives coaching by Gemma Visser, Marcel Reijans and Miranda van Kralingen, among others.
Mark Omvlee was accepted at the Holland Opera, before his graduation. Here he sang various opera roles throughout the Netherlands, ranging from baroque to contemporary music. He debuted at the Opera Zuid in 2006 in Stravinsky’s Mavra. As member of the soloist ensemble of the Opera Zuid, he sang various tenor roles in Nozze di Figaro, Der Rosenkavalier, Barbe Bleue and Die Zauberflöte, among others.
In recent years he took part in the chamber opera production Owen Wingrave at Opera Trionfo. He also performed the role of Mime in Wagner’s Das Rheingold, Bizet’s Carmen, Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (Monostatos) at the Opéra Saint-Étienne and Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol (at the ZaterdagMatinee, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under Charles Dutoit). At the Dutch National Opera Mark Omvlee took part in productions of Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims, Dialogue des Carmelites by Poulenc and Die Rosenkavalier by Strauss. He also performed the main role (Jack) in Brokeback Mountain by Charles Wuorinen at the opera houses of Aachen and Salzburg.
In recent seasons, Mark Omvlee has appeared in various major productions, such as Verdi's I Due Foscari at the Saturday Matinee in Amsterdam, Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with Christophe Rousset (French tour), Salomé van Strauss at Dutch National Opera and Verbier Festival and Deus Passus by Wolfgang Rihm. in the Friday of Vredenburg, and the St. Matthew Passion with the Noord Nederlands Orkest conducted by Reinhard Goebel, in the Saturday matinee Mussorgsky Boris Godunov conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado; AVROTROS Friday concert (TivoliVredenburg) with Berlioz' Romeo et Juliette conducted by Fabien Gabel; Mark performed the role of Laios at Dutch National Opera in Enesco's Oedipe and sang at Opéra de Lille Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte.
Recently Mark Omvlee has performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Tristan & Isolde (Melot) in Amsterdam and Lucerne, in the Matthäus Passion with the Noord Nederlands Orkest conducted by Reinhard Goebel, in Smetena's Bride for sale (Vasek) and for example in Dvorak's Rusalka, at the Dutch National Opera and Ballet. at Opera de Lorraine, the National Opera and for example Bergen National Opera (Norway).
