“Hommage an Clara” and “Bouquet d’Amour” are two unique concert concepts created by Lisa Larsson, featuring selections of Lieder by two remarkable female composers: Clara Schumann and Cécile Chaminade. In these programs, their music is presented in a new light, with the original piano accompaniments transformed into the lush, expressive sound of a string quartet, arranged by Rolf Martinsson—one of Sweden’s most internationally acclaimed composers.
The two concepts are designed to contrast beautifully, yet both share a central theme: love—as expressed through a female perspective. The result is a charming and vivid juxtaposition of the German and French musical spirits. Oh là là!
In Hommage an Clara, the centrepiece is Clara Schumann’s setting of the famous Rückert poem “Liebst du um Schönheit”—a text many know through Mahler’s later version. However, Clara composed her version first, and it is arguably just as beautiful—if not even more so.
Let us be curious together and take this moment to honour Clara—a star who unjustly remained in her husband’s shadow—and Cécile, whose pure talent also deserves the recognition of today.
