A native of Riga, Naum Grubert’s principal studies were with the famous professor Gutman in Moscow. In 1978 he was a prize-winner in the Tchaikovsky Competition after having won the 2nd prize at the International Piano Competition in Montreal in the year before. He toured extensively the Soviet Union and other European countries before he emigrated from Russia and became a Dutch resident in 1983.

His many impressive recitals, as well as concerts with among many others the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Gürzenich Orchester Köln, Tonkünstler Orchester Vienna, het Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Kirov Orchestra St. Petersburg, Nehterlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Limburg Symphony Orchestra and the Residentie Orchestra, have earned him a reputation of superb musicianship.
He took part in the Lichfield Festival (Great Britain), the Cadaqués Festival (Spain) the Lockenhaus Festival (Austria, having performed with Gidon Kremer and Tabea Zimmerman) and the Gergiev Festival (Holland). Besides this Naum Grubert played in main concert halls like the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Musikverein Vienna, Queen Elizabeth and Barbican Halls in London, Palau de la Musica in Barcelona, etc.

Naum Grubert has performed with conductors such as Paavo Berglund, Sergiu Commissiona, Jean Fournet, Horst Stein, Christopher Seaman, Vernon Handly, Matthias Bamert, Ernest Bour, Ed Spanjaard, Vassili Sinaiski, Thomas Sanderling, Valery Gergiev, Claus Peter Flor, Aldo Ceccato, Evgeny Svetlanov, and Stanislav Skrovachevsky.
He recorded several highly succesfull CDs, with solo repertoire by Schubert, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Mussorgsky and Beethoven, but also Schubert’s Winterreise with the well-known bass-baritone Robert Holl. Dutch TV has recorded various concerts of Naum Grubert like the one in the Matinee in the Concertgebouw with the Radio Philharmonic and the Piano Concerto no. 1 by Brahms, as well the series “Het Meesterwerk – The Masterpiece” about Mussorgsky’s Pictures At An Exhibition. Recently he recorded two CD albums for Navis Classics with Beethoven sonatas (2014) and a Chopin recital (2017).
